What You Do Today Matters Most

Daily Door for August 2, 2016 - Quote: Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most. - Buddha

Do you ever finish a day feeling bad about what little you accomplished? Or do you sometimes wish you could just go back to bed and hit the reset button on the whole day?

We all have those days. It’s just a part of the ebb and flow of life. Sometimes we’re on, and sometimes we’re not.

Perspective

The good news is that each day is new and fresh with opportunities and a chance to make it a great one. It doesn’t matter what you did yesterday, or what you plan to do tomorrow. Today, in the present, is all that really counts.

The Thing About the Past

The past is already done, so there’s no sense wasting time worrying about it or trying to change it. Even if you really messed up, all you can do is move on with today and try to do better. Perhaps you can make amends for something you did wrong or work toward fixing a mistake, but either way, you can’t change what already happened. All you can do is decide to do something differently from now moving forward.

Even accomplishments are in the past. They can be celebrated, but without further action and commitment to taking the next steps, any progress or achievement will simply stay in the past, eventually to be forgotten. Everything that has accumulated up to the present, all the work, all the effort, all the knowledge, will just blow away in the winds of time if not utilized, continued and built upon.

Life in the Future

We have so many goals and dreams for the future, don’t we? We make plans, we hope for things to happen, we have things we look forward to… but if we don’t do the work today that is required to move us forward, then that future will keep staying “just a dream.”

Today is What Makes the Difference

It’s the action we take today that matters most. It’s each decision we make and every step on the path forward we choose to take that get us closer to that future we envision. Life is really just a series of todays, and each day’s choices and actions matter.

The good news is that whether you have a great day or a terrible day, the sun will set on that day and will rise again to a brand new one. So every morning is a new chance, full of possibilities and potential… and it’s totally up to you what you choose to do with it.
